A note from Pastor Terry
As many of you know, our own Nick Dodd is serving in the Marines, and is currently stationed in Cherry Point, NC. He is safe and sound. But he has already lost friends and fellow Marines who have been killed in action in Afghanistan. The following is a prayer, based on the Firefighter’s and Marine Prayers, written by one of Nick’s friends prior to his deployment. He asked that Nick have it read and printed if anything should happen to him. Nick’s friend recently lost his life in Afghanistan.

When we are called to duty
Where ever the flames may rage.
Where ever the guns may blaze
Where ever the smoke snuffs out all hope
Where ever the bombs may deafen out the calls for help
Where ever my brothers and I are pushed to react
Lord guide us, help us… we are merely your tools.
Use us to help those in need
to have no fear to see through the smoke
            to hear over the bombs
Lord hear the prayers of my brothers so that we may return home with all we left with,
and if we falter accept us in to your embrace
so that we may protect our brother still in the fight.
To you I have made this prayer:
guide us through the fires, and bullets
for all of us to carry your helping hand, your message, your grace.
Loved friend, brother, Marine, Firefighter, MWSS 271 Garden, 1989-2010

Welcome in the name of Christ to the Oswego Presbyterian Church website! At OPC, our desire is “To know God in Christ”

n      In worship   Our new sanctuary, open and inviting, is inspiring and accessible, is a vessel to house our worship times on Sundays. Blessed with new space, we seek a deeper, more powerful worship experience as we continue to grow in faith. The future is now at OPC! We have a “blended” style of worship, using both traditional and contemporary music, and always focusing on God’s Word in Scripture and always proclaiming Christ as Lord. “Great is the Lord and Greatly to be Praised!”

n      In education   “Its all about the kids! ” -- we say that a lot around here, from our weekday Preschool program (God’s Gifts Preschool), to Sunday school to Junior and Senior high Youth programs and four, (count ‘em 4!) youth and children’s  choirs. We now also have plenty of new rooms to accommodate classes and programs. We learn God’s Word for our lives through study, participation, music, and prayer. Praise be to God

n      In fellowship   To know God in Christ means to know each other so that we can see Christ IN our brothers and sisters. Our GREAT ROOM and The Upper Room have become joy-filled spaces of conversation and fellowship, of laughter and sharing. Over a cup of coffee or lemonade, we become TO and FOR each other, the Body of Christ.
n      In service   And with all the excitement we have had in this past year watching our building become complete, we have never forgotten that it’s truly all for service and love to a needy and hurting world. Our Mission emphasis includes such diverse places as Hesed House in Aurora, Kendall County Food Pantry, continued hurricane relief in Slidell, Louisiana to our newest with the KENYA partnership in Africa through the Presbyterian Church, USA.
